I tried simple white rice and it came out GREAT! It was done in about 20 minutes...fluffy with no brown crusty bottom. If you're cooking for one or two (or even four) this is the perfect little rice cooker. If you have a large family or are cooking for a crowd, you might want to get a larger one. I haven't used the steamer insert yet but will probably do so later. The only reason I gave it four instead of five is because the larger cookers have a bell that "dings" when the rice is done. It spoils you. But like the larger cookers, it does switch to "warm" mode when the rice is done. You can always set a kitchen timer to remind you to check on it. I'm glad I bought it. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Aroma ARC-733-1G 3-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen) I don't need large quantities, buckets of rice. A small pot with a lid would do the job, no need to buy a gadget. But remembering to take it off the stove, hearing the timer, etc., that IS a pain. SO I get a maker... and it works great. Here's the trick: Put their measuring "cup" of rice in, THEN fill water to the line. The line is set to include the volume of the rice. By not overfilling it, the rice comes out right, and the hole won't spew water everwhere (as someone complained about a different maker). That this one has a steamer on top is a bonus! (Just remember that the essentials of the stuff up top may trickle back down into your rice.) If you will never need that, there is a less expensive model. I liked the potential to resolve two healthy eating aspects at the same time. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful By Shefeline (California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Aroma ARC-733-1G 3-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen) I have had this rice cooker for 6 YEARS now and it's still working perfectly! Not bad for a $20 item. I've used it countless times and the rice is always perfect and done in less than 20 minutes. Also, it's one of the few rice cookers on the market WITHOUT nonstick coating. Which is good! Nonstick coating is BAD for you if the slightest scratch occurs and believe me scratches WILL occur during washing before long especially if you ever have the rice stick. The EU is actually considering changing the designation of nonstick coatings from "potential carcinogens" to "likely carcinogens". The evidence on the potential hazards of aluminum is much less clear and if you're careful how you wash it you should be ok.Some tips: 1. As another reviewer pointed out - put the rice in first THEN add the water to the indicated water line or your measurements and rice will be off. It says so in the user manual. BROWN RICE requires 1.5 times the water. In other words, for 1 cup... Read more |
