I used to think that a rice cooker was a pot on top of a stove. Then I got a $10 rice cooker at a drug store and it never burnt the rice and that was pretty cool. Eventually the cheap non-stick on that gave way, but I kept using it, losing a bit of rice to the pan, until it gave out. I knew that I wanted an upgrade, but some of the rice cookers were triple digits, which seems like a lot. I have gotten years out of automobiles that were triple digits. Anyhow, this fella seemed like the best of the "reasonable" lot, and it has been spectacular. Brown basmati? Perfect. Arborio? Perfect? Calrose? Perfect. This thing is light years ahead of the cheap cookers that you set a glass cover on top of.

So my 20 years old Panasonic/Fussy logic is on its last leg, still working mind you but it looks sad and worn, so I was wondering whether I should spend another $100-$200 and decided to give this $39 a try. 1-month verdict: U get what you paid for. My Panasonic was perfect every time. This Aroma, if I use too little/too much water, it shows. The rice doesn't taste like cooked evenly. At times there is even a spot that comes out watery. But I love the Aroma's controls and display and luv that stainless steel, too bad it's all looks and little performance.

When my son smashed the lid for our old Aroma, it seemed like a no brainer to purchase a new one by the same company. The old one was simple and with me working more I went for the programmable, smaller size seemed like it would be a better fit for our family size.

I havent used the machine yet but let me say that it comes with a steamer tray and rice measurer that are made from such flimsy plastic, I dont even think they will be able to take top rack heat in the dishwasher. I had my last aroma for so long and I still keep the measure cup that came with it in my bag of rice. This time, i put it right in the recycling. When you spend 30 dollars for an appliance, the accessories shouldnt seem cheaper than the stuff that comes with my daughters playdough kitchen toys.
