This review is from: Nesco ST-25BR BPA Free Food Steamer, 5-Quart (Kitchen) I purchased this steamer not knowing what to expect because there were no reviews, it was relatively cheap, and I had read some less than positive reviews about other steamers from the same company. However, this was the only BPA-free steamer I could find so I figured it was worth a shot. I am very happy with its performance. I got it just a few days ago and have already steamed edamame, brussel sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, corn on the cob and rice! I thought the steamer bowls looked small, but they actually fit quite a bit of food. I steamed four ears of corn in just one bowl (cut the ears in half) and probably could have put one more ear in there. It produces steam quickly and does a great job at evenly steaming the veggies. It is also very easy to clean. I had read a complaint about hot water boiling out the heating component in another Nesco steamer review, but I have not had that problem at all after several uses with this model. It started leaking a little after first use but I thought that maybe I was doing something wrong. Second time water was pouring down the sides of the steamer. I had to put paper towels around. Trays are also very flimsy and after the first use I noticed some scratches on the bottom. I came across it at Sam's Club ($30) and thought I should give it a try. I was skeptical at first, because most rice cookers in this price range received horrible reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used it. It took 15 minutes or so to cook 3 cups of rice and it came our perfect, just like you would get from a good Chinese restaurant. I've never been able to cook rice like that before. It's great. It's also very easy to clean. Anyway, I got the rice cooker today and made 2 batches of rice to test it out. First, I made 2 cups of Jasmine Rice. It came out perfect and fast. The package states 15-20 minutes, the cooker got it done in about 10 minutes. The real test is always, the Brown Rice. I made 4 cups of Brown Rice to yield 8 cups. I followed the instruction booklets recommended amounts. I believe Brown Rice takes about an hour normally to cook, the cooker got it done in the range of 20 - 30 minutes. Perfect rice, fluffy, flavorful. WOW! I have a bunch of more rice to try. Wild, Red etc. I will update once I get those done. However I have a feeling they will all end up the same. Cleanup is easy, and the only thing that I had a problem with is the term "Cup". Normally we think of a "cup" being the measure we use... This review is from: Aroma ARC-1033E Commercial 60-Cup (Cooked) Rice Cooker (Kitchen) its a great item, very large, im a big rice eater, so it works perfectly for me, just follow the instruction, and you will be fine, remember to add the same amount of water which you add rice PLUS quarter more...any mmeasurmnet you are using, to cook rice, you must add the same amount water plus quarter of the same measurment (water)....press cook buttom it will be ready in about 20 minutes,BUT, remember not to open the cover in between and NEVER when it beebs, you gotta wait atleast 20 more minutes after the beeb sound, so it can get cooked completly and perfectly....also: do NOT put the rice cooker next to or on counter that is close to other items around it especially next to wooden cabinet simply because it starts making kinda powerful steam coming from the little hole which is normal and can make lots of moisture, i personally would put it on the flat floor in the kitchen or any floor, nothing around it,..make sure no kids running around the house....washing tips: do NOT scrub... Awesome capacity and fairly quick cooking time. The only CON about this product is that the edge of the heavy duty lid is SHARP. It's almost ridiculous. I've been around rice cookers all my life and this is the only 'dangerous' lid I've ever encountered. Washing with soapy hands, one slip and it slices right through soft hands. Otherwise, it should be alright if you're careful. As for the functionality of the cooker itself, it's fine. Works well. Just a tip read the instruction manual just because you have used a rice cooker before you should not assume that everything will be the same. When you cook large amounts somethings may differ. Like they recommend waiting 20 after the cook light switch to warm for the rice to complete its cooking cycle. I usually cook 30 cups every Monday and store it in smart spin containers. I eat it all week and start over again. I have learned to make rice many different ways and I save soooooo much money and time. I used to use a little rice cooker and I had to wash it and use it day after day. Now with this rice cooker I can cook and clean my food for a week in under 1 hour. As another reviewer stated the top edge is sharp so you should be careful. I have also used this to make pasta based on another reviewers remarks.
