Entire family loves waking up to the smell of steel cut oats ( add apples and cinnamon) at 6 am, but the fact that I don't have to get up an hour before that is a great bonus for me.It's the right machine for mom, I could put the ingridients in and go on the playground with the kids, by the time we get back the dinner is ready, no worrying about watching it. The machine will do the job, turn it off when needed and will keep it warm for us. It's not just for rice and oatmeal. It does great soups, one-pot dishes, steamed food, and yes, cakes. Banana cake was a big hit with the family. The best purchase I made in while:) 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By WOLF F. This machine replaced our trusted Japan made Tiger machine which gave up after ten years. The Panasonic is made in China but we are not disappointed. Seems to be put together well and the rice comes out perfect. 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Panasonic SR-MS183 10-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker (Kitchen) I've never been able to make wild rice, it was always overcooked or raw. My first rice batch with this machine was a wild rice pilaf. I used chicken stock rather than water, and the brown rice cycle. It came out perfectly, cooked, but still had texture. We've made several batches of thai jasmine rice that have turned out very well. Looking forward to many more batches of various rice recipes. It is fairly easy to clean which is a good selling point. The cookbook that comes with it is very minimal, and the instructions are easy to follow. there are several nice rice cooker cookbooks on amazon that are worth looking into.Addendum: 22 Nov 1: We've been using this machine to make the various rices (all very good), and started making quinoa with it. This thing really does a great job. My only (minor) complaint is that it doesn't give you a good eta until about 15 minutes or so before it is done, but this is understandable based on the fuzzy logic. I really like this... Read more |
